Soane Travels: Scotland, May 2019

May 8 to 12, 2019

Highlights

Sir John Soane had a great appreciation for the Scottish architect Robert Adam and his understanding of Neoclassical architecture and interior design (the Museum today holds 80% of the world’s surviving Adam drawings). We will visit homes designed by Robert Adam and the Adam family. We will also examine buildings designed by architects, including Alexander “Greek” Thomson, a pioneer in sustainable building; William Henry Playfair, who transformed Edinburgh in the 1800s; and Charles Rennie Mackintosh, known for his Art Nouveau-inspired buildings in Glasgow.

This exclusive journey featured private visits to Scone Palace, Balcarres, The Hirsel, and visits to Glasgow to see the work of Thomson and Macintosh.

Organized by Stefano Aluffi-Pentini (A Private View of Italy and Europe), in collaboration with David Brown.
