Sir John Soane’s Museum Foundation Announces the Richard T. Sharp Graduate Fellowship to Support Research and Residency at the Soane Museum in London

New York, NY — Sir John Soane’s Museum Foundation is proud to announce a generous gift from Richard T. Sharp to support its annual research residency program at Sir John Soane’s Museum in London. The new Richard T. Sharp Museum Fellowship for Graduate Students will fund graduate-level research over the next five years.

This $10,000 annual fellowship grant supports independent research projects that engage with the life, work, and legacy of Sir John Soane, utilizing the Museum’s renowned collections, archives, and historic interiors. Fellows will also have the opportunity to work closely with the Museum’s expert staff.

“We are honored to offer this unique opportunity to emerging scholars,” said Paul L. Whalen, Chairman of the Soane Foundation. “Rick’s generosity ensures that a new generation of architects, designers, and researchers will be able to explore the Museum’s extraordinary resources and deepen global understanding of Soane’s architectural and cultural legacy.”

Each year, the Fellowship will attract outstanding candidates from graduate programs in architecture, art history, preservation, and related fields. “I’m delighted our discussions led to this partnership,” said Mr. Sharp. “Sir John Soane’s Museum is a treasure of architectural and intellectual history. I’m proud to support the Foundation’s efforts to expand access and scholarship.” In recognition of this gift, the program will carry Mr. Sharp’s name throughout the five-year funding period.

The first application cycle for the Richard T. Sharp Graduate Fellowship opens in November 2025, and the 2026 Fellow will be announced in April. Full details are available at www.soanefoundation.org, or by contacting info@soanefoundation.org.
